Indie stream updates: New address, firewall friendliness, and new player options

Hey Indie Nation! We're switching to a new stream provider this weekend which means our stream address will change. You'll need to update your bookmarks in your preferred music player, iTunes, WinAmp, etc. We're excited about a few new listening options.

If you're a PC and Windows was your idea, try out the new Windows Media Player compatible link under the NOW ON AIR box in the upper-right of the page. We've also added a RealPlayer link.

Listen to IndieSF.com on your iPhone or iPod Touch

Note: If you're using a phone powered by Google Android or Blackberry, check out our stream listening help for a few options.

I love my iPhone and am constantly amazed at what it can do. One thing it does well is tune into internet radio stations, including IndieSF.com. You can tune in with Quicktime with iPhones running the 3.0 iPhone operating system. There are also several applications that you can tune in with available from the iTunes App store. Here are a few tips to get you started with these apps on your iPhone or iPod Touch.

Iggy & The Stooges Raw Power reissue and special

Hey Indie Nation....

the  Raw Power reissue from Iggy and The Stooges is out today. The songs on the reissue disc have been remixed and reset by Iggy as he thought it should have been heard back in '73 (legend has many folks blaming David Bowie, who mixed it originally, doing a crap job with the end result being anything but raw).If you'd like a copy of the new reissue, well, drop me a line personally (with a good joke perhaps - sam@indiesf.com) and I may just send you one.

A Sad Day - Mark Linkous RIP

Hey...its a grey and chilly Sunday outside - I'm inside doing some work here in the Indie underground bunker and came across this very sad note (from Pitchforks site):

Mark Linkous of Sparklehorse has committed suicide, according to a report from Rolling Stone. His family has released a statement reading, "It is with great sadness that we share the news that our dear friend and family member, Mark Linkous, took his own life today. We are thankful for his time with us and will hold him forever in our hearts. May his journey be peaceful, happy and free. There's a heaven and there's a star for you."

Linkous made his debut under the Sparklehorse name with the 1995 album vivadixiesubmarinetransmissionplot, which yielded the minor hit "Someday I Will Treat You Good". He went on to release three more acclaimed records of fractured, experimental alt-blues: 1999's Good Morning Spider, 2001's It's a Wonderful Life, and 2006's Dreamt for Light Years in the Belly of a Mountain, as well as the Danger Mouse/David Lynch all-star project Dark Night of the Soul and the Fennesz collaboration In the Fishtank. A voracious collaborator, Linkous also worked with PJ Harvey, Daniel Johnston, Tom Waits, and many others.
