New music to listen for this week on IndieSF.com, week of 8/30

  • We jump on a couple of new songs (leaks) from Sufjan Stevens - "I Walked" and "Heirloom" (an ep out with a whole cd coming).
  • Our new fave song from Brit-pop outfit The Chap called "We Work In Bars" (one of our fave places).
  • Mumford & Sons turning into a late Summer fave here with "White Blank Page" and "Winter Winds" in the mix from Sigh No More .
  • Menomena disc starting to grow on us, especially the tune called "Taos" (there'll be more though) from Mines .
  • Ra Ra Riot are back with a catchy bunch of tunes on The Orchard and we start with the song "Boy" (both the cd version and a kewl remix of it too)
  • Canadian buzz-band The Acorn find themselves fitting in quite well with the tune "Restoration" off No Ghost .
  • Cut Copy & Chromeo both turn in end of summer hand-clappers with "Where I'm Going" and "Dont Turn The Lights On" respectively.
  • A couple of new female voices rocking our world include Sahara Smith (winner of the Prairie Home Companion contest) and Megan McCormick.
  • We pick up more tunes from LCD Soundsystem, The National, Sharon Jones, Two Door Cinema Club, and Chemical Brothers.
  • A new Dandy Warhols tune, plucked from the forthcoming Capitol best-of disc (that we will be giving away NEXT week) The Capitol Years 1995-2007
  • Best Coast - we caved on "Boyfriend"
  • The Walkmen, sounding like they have been listening to a lot of Calexico (a good thing). Listen for "Stranded" and "Angela Surf City".

New Music - late July to Mid August

  • Finally, ARCADE FIRE'S much anticipated 3rd effort is out this week after months of leaks The Suburbs  (cd will sport 8 different covers).
  • Our fave band from east L.A. returns this week and is as strong as ever on Tin Can Trust
  • Chemical Brothers are back doing what they do best on Further . good on headphones or as loud as the speakers can handle.
  • Singles going steady: new cuts from Ra Ra Riot (Boy), Cut Copy (Where I'm Going), and Best Coast (Boyfriend) along with The Walkmen, 22-20's, and School Of Seven Bells,
  • New bands to listen for include Villagers and Colour Revolt.
  • We initially ignored 'The Songs Of John Prine' disc but really like the covers by My Morning Jacket, Conor Oberst, and DBT's and are spinning them...a lot.
  • INTERPOL leaks another track, "Barricade", from their forthcoming disc (and not as dark as "Lights")
  • Some cool instrumental tracks from Stanton Moore, Quantic, and Calibro 35.
  • We spent some cash on the new JAMES disc Night Before . Listen for "Ten Below" and "Its Hot" (disc out domestic mid Sept).
  • Speaking of imports, we are spinning a song called "By Some Miracle" off Phil Selways new solo disc away from Radiohead called Familial.
  • We introduce you to North Carolinas Love Language and their disc Libraries . We start with the first 2 tracks on the disc - but there is more.
  • We load up more from Ariel Pinks Haunted Graffiti - quickly becoming one of our faves of '10.

New Music - From late June to late July

  • Luke Doucets new single "Ballad Of Ian Curtis" went on after just one listen (cuz we still worship Joy Division).We dig deeper into Radio Dept and Minus The Bear
  • A little something retro via Faded Paper Figures and their catchy "Invent It All Again".
  • DEVO - the spud boys are back and we are glad to de-volve and get some new tunes on from Something for Everybody
  • Flying Lotus - all we can say is holy shit about Cosmogramma . Thom Yorke guesting on the track we start with - nuff said.
  • Hot Hot Heat are back with a fun set called Future Breeds with a cover that reminds me of the movie BRAZIL.
  • On the alt-country tip, we have new music in rotation from Alejandro Escovedo, Peter Case, Dangermuffin(for fans of Avetts) and Evangenitals (best new band name).
  • Kick ass LCD Soundsystem remixes of both "Drunk Girls" and "You Wanted A Hit".
  • A new SPEARHEAD song enters the mix and is perfect windows down, volume up Summer music
  • We add more deep cuts from GORILLAZ,Vampire Weekend, Two Door Cinema Club, and Local Natives.
  • We add a couple of tunes (including Andrew Bird) from a new Shel Silverstein tribute disc  Twistable Turnable Man: A Musical Tribute to Shel Silverstein
  • The Mod Godfather, Paul Weller, is back with an electrifying set called Wake Up The Nation
  • A new BECK song from the 2nd collection of songs from HBO's True Blood: Music From The HBO Original Series Volume 2
  • Band Of Horses out this week with Infinite Arms and we rein in more songs like Factory and Compliments. This is nice...
  • It was like we started our favorites list for 2010 with the new releases that have come our way in the last coupla weeks - listen as dig deep into each one of these: LCD Soundsystem, The Fall, New Pornographers, The Hold Steady, Broken Social Scene, Delorean, Holy Fuck, and The National.
  • Neil Finn, original bandmates in tow, returns with Crowded House, on "Saturday Sun". Full disc on the way called Intriguer.
  • Janelle Monae - a genre busting disc produced by Big Boi and a track that features Of Montreal
  • Gogol Bordello has us doing the Transcontinental Hustle (try and not dance...we dare you)

  • The Fall - Mark E Smith is back with a strong set called Your Future Our Clutter
  • Interpol - the song "Lights", a return to form for the band from their as yet untitled 4th disc.
  • Minus The Bear - we start with My Time off their 4th and forthcoming (and strong) disc Omni

New Music - From May to late June

  • Tracey Thorn and a song about hormones off her new solo disc Love & Its Opposite
  • Aqualung (Matt Hales) returns with Magnetic North and we start with "New Friend"
  • Justin Currie, lead singer of Del Amitri, is back with another solo work and we are playing Ready To Be.
  • Local Natives - We add another tune from Gorilla Manor, "Wide Eyes". A cool, almost Fleet Foxes vibe.
  • Josh Ritter - he continues to surprise and win new fans with this, his sixth disc now, So Runs The World Away. We start with 2 right from the get go.
  • UNKLE - Mo Wax mogul James LaVelle is back with his on/off project.  Where Did the Night Fall is out here May 11th.
