I love my iPhone and am constantly amazed at what it can do. One thing it does well is tune into internet radio stations, including IndieSF.com. You can tune in with Quicktime with iPhones running the 3.0 iPhone operating system. There are also several applications that you can tune in with available from the iTunes App store. Here are a few tips to get you started with these apps on your iPhone or iPod Touch.

Listening to the IndieSF.com stream works great over broadband WiFi networks at home, work, or the local café. If you're in a bigger city where AT&T provides a 3G network, you'll be able to listen while you're on the go. AT&T's old Edge network, like the one here in Santa Fe, doesn't reliably play our stream, or any other, for that matter.

So grab an app from the store and point it to http://listen.indiesf.com.

The iTunes App store has several apps which range in price from $1 to $10 and so far I've only seen one that's free. FStream is that one free app. In my limited testing, FStream played IndieSF just fine.

I also downloaded and tried out an app simply named Radio. I'm glad I payed the $0.99 for Radio and I now use it as my primary player. After installation, here's how to start listening to the IndieSF.com stream:

1. Launch Radio and click the Streams button at the bottom of the screen.
2. Enter the Station Name and URL (http://listen.indiesf.com). The description is optional :)

   

3. Click Save and then click on IndieSF.com in the Streams list to stat listening, that's it!

   

Click the Star button in the upper-right corner to add IndieSF.com to Radio's favorite list and be sure to click the Share button

Other Apps

There are several other apps that play MP3/PLS streams, like IndieSF's. I can't recommend any specifically but can say that I've been happy with other offerings from Rogue Amoeba, maker of Radioshift Touch. Make sure to check out the ratings and user reviews of each app before making a purchase.
