Dangermouse and Sparklehorse collab scrapped BUT...
...as we are Indie and always hungry for new music, we got a copy of this brilliant disc. Actually, we got a copy from a guy that knows a guy, whose brother.....
When we learned that this was going to be shelved due to the "legal department", we knew it had to be good and are now playing several cuts from it including tracks with Julian Casablancas (Strokes), Jason Lytle (Grandaddy), and Flaming Lips. The below press clip explains the discs origins and why it got pulled from release:
Dark Night Of The Soul, The collaborative effort between Dangermouse, Sparklehorse, David Lynch and loads of big guest vocalists has been dealt a significant blow due to legal trouble with label EMI.
A press statement for Dangermouse says the album cannot be released “without fear of legal entanglement”. David Lynch’s photography, which was inspired by and based on the music, will now only be release in a limited edition, hand-numbered, 100 plus page book which will come packaged with a blank, recordable CD-R instead of a produced disc. All copies will be clearly labelled: ‘For legal reasons, enclosed CD-R contains no music. Use it as you will.’
Due to an ongoing dispute with EMI, Danger Mouse is unable to release the recorded music for Dark Night Of The Soul .
