Miles - Bitches Brew 40th anniversary
We celebrated when the jazz watermark Kind Of Blue turned 50 and now Miles Davis 1970 turning point, Bitches Brew (Legacy Edition) , turns 40 and gets the reissue treatment thru Columbia/Legacy. We will air a radio special this weekend at 5 Sunday evening just before Something Different at 6 (with a replay next Thursday at noon). We actually have some extra copies of the reissue to pass along (yes, giveaway, free, gratis) so please feel free to email the head instigator for one and send along your physical address (sam@indiesf.com).
New music to listen for this week on IndieSF.com, week of 9/6
- We jump on a couple of new songs (leaks) from Sufjan Stevens - "I Walked" and "Heirloom" (an ep out with a whole cd coming).
- Our new fave song from Brit-pop outfit The Chap called "We Work In Bars" (one of our fave places).
- Mumford & Sons turning into a late Summer fave here with "White Blank Page" and "Winter Winds" in the mix from Sigh No More .
- Menomena disc starting to grow on us, especially the tune called "Taos" (there'll be more though) from Mines .
- Ra Ra Riot are back with a catchy bunch of tunes on The Orchard and we start with the song "Boy" (both the cd version and a kewl remix of it too)
- Canadian buzz-band The Acorn find themselves fitting in quite well with the tune "Restoration" off No Ghost .
- Cut Copy & Chromeo both turn in end of summer hand-clappers with "Where I'm Going" and "Dont Turn The Lights On" respectively.
- A couple of new female voices rocking our world include Sahara Smith (winner of the Prairie Home Companion contest) and Megan McCormick.
- We pick up more tunes from LCD Soundsystem, The National, Sharon Jones, Two Door Cinema Club, and Chemical Brothers.
- A new Dandy Warhols tune, plucked from the forthcoming Capitol best-of disc (that we will be giving away NEXT week) The Capitol Years 1995-2007
- Best Coast - we caved on "Boyfriend"
- The Walkmen, sounding like they have been listening to a lot of Calexico (a good thing). Listen for "Stranded" and "Angela Surf City".
